The Play Learn Lab

The Play Learn Lab (PLL) is a three-year integrated Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education (ECCDE) pilot project, designed for children living in low-income communities across Nigeria. The PLL is a holistic, play-based educational model that is:

Developmentally appropriate, supporting children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.

Culturally responsive, incorporating indigenous stories, languages, and practices.

Scalable and sustainable, with a structure that encourages local ownership and continuous improvement.

The pilot phase, which will run until July 2027, is currently being implemented at Ejioki Primary School, Ifiekpori Community, Warri, Delta State. Upon completion, the school leadership will take ownership of the labs, while AOAF’s implementation partner, the Nucleus Center for Early Childhood Development (NCCD), continues to provide technical oversight and mentorship. The Play Learn Lab stands as a bold step toward equitable and high-quality early childhood education in Nigeria.

The Joyful Childhood Docuseries

In parallel with our work in ECCDE, our implementation partner , NCCD has commenced production of the Joyful Childhood Docuseries, a five-part documentary project exploring the first six formative years of life for Nigerian children. With a projected timeline of 18 months, the series is a heartfelt, visually powerful examination of the lived realities of children from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
